The global limit on sulphur content in ships’ fuel oil will be reduced from 3.5% to 0.50% on 01 January 2020. The regulation is intended to substantially reduce harmful sulphur oxide emissions from ships, bringing significant benefits for both human health and the environment. Full story

On August 1, 2019, Canada surpassed its 10% marine conservation target with the establishment of the Tuvaijuittuq Marine Protected Area (MPA) under the new ministerial authority of the Oceans Act. The Tuvaijuittuq MPA protects 5.55% of Canada’s marine territory, bringing the total of protected Canadian oceans and coasts to nearly 14%. More…
