Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board, the Government of Nunavut, and the Makivik Corporation provided information on the ongoing initiative to develop federal fisheries regulations for Nunavut and adjacent marine areas, including the Nunavik Marine Region. The new fishery regulations are being developed to improve implementation of the relevant land claims agreements, advance Indigenous self-determination by strengthening Indigenous governance of fisheries resources, and create a modern set of regulatory tools to ensure the sustainability of fisheries in Nunavut and adjacent marine areas.
