Arctic Cruise Shipping 2022
Following the expiry of the two-year sailing ban on passenger ships and pleasure crafts in Canadian Arctic waters due to COVID-19, cruise shipping will resume in the 2022 season. Investment in Qikiqtarjuaq Deep-Water Port Announced
The Government of Canada has announcement an investment of more than $40 million for the construction of a new deep-water port in Qikiqtarjuaq, providing a new option for offloading fishing vessels in Nunavut. Looking ahead, the port would also service local resupply goods and could further benefit other users, such as tourism vessels.
2021 Draft Nunavut Land Use Plan Released
The Nunavut Planning Commission has released the 2021 Draft Nunavut Land Use Plan and supporting Options and Recommendations document. Written submissions on the 2021 DNLUP are requested to be filed by September 30, 2021.

(IMPAC5) is seeking quality proposal submissions from a broad spectrum of marine protected area practitioners, stakeholders, institutions, governments and organizations, Indigenous peoples, individuals and young professionals. Proposals for a variety of in-person and virtual formats that align with IMPAC5’s themes and streams will be considered.
Arctic Council Ministerial Deliverables Published
The 12th Ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council marks the end of the two-year Icelandic Chairmanship term. It provided an opportunity to review and approve the Council’s activities and accomplishments under the Icelandic Chairmanship. It also saw the Russian Federation assume the role of chairing the Arctic Council for the next two years. Deliverables of the Icelandic Chairmanship are available here.
